Completion of the Year of Libraries and 75th Anniversary of the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic

Grand meeting devoted to celebration of the Year of libraries and to the 75-th anniversary of the National Library took place in the National library of KR on December, 7th, 2009.

According to the order of the Ministry of culture and information of the Kyrgyz Republic 2009 is proclaimed a Year of Libraries in Kyrgyzstan.

The basic purpose of this initiative is to improve the system of information and library service, to develop libraries according to modern directions and conditions as well as to stimulate library activity in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Library specialists from republican, rural, regional and city libraries of Kyrgyzstan, representatives of the President's Administration, the Government, Zhogorku Kenesh, the ministries, Zh. Bakiev Public fund, Aha Khan Fund, international organizations and mass media have taken part in the event.

Director of the State agency of culture Raev S.A. welcomed guests and congratulated the National library's collective and all Kyrgyz librarians on successful completion of the Year of libraries and 75-th anniversary of the National library. The most outstanding library specialists were awarded for the big personal contribution to development of the librarianship in our republic.

The president of the Library and information consortium of Kyrgyzstan Battalova S.S. made a welcoming speech about completion of the Year of libraries. She congratulated all library community and the National library's collective on the 75-th anniversary of the library and on celebrating the Year of libraries. 35 best rural, city and regional libraries have received prizes and gifts from the Consortium. And most meritorious librarians from the regions were awarded diplomas of the Consortium for the long conscientious work, high professionalism and big personal contribution to the development of librarianship.

It is necessary to note, that within the limits of the actions dated for celebrating of Year of libraries in Kyrgyzstan, has been lead Общереспубликанский a book marathon (on May, 27th), republican competition " the Best rural library ", 10-th International conference « Libraries and democratization of a society » (on October, 1-5st), celebrating of 75-years anniversary of National library (on December, 7th), etc.

With the framework of the Year of Libraries a number of information, advertising, cultural and professional events were conducted. Among them are:

- the republican contest "The Best rural library";

- celebrating the Day of Libraries on May, 27th;

- the republican marathon dedicated to the Day of libraries;

- the International conference "Issyk-Kul 2009: Libraries and democratization of society";

- celebrating the 75th anniversary of the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic, etc.
